I fixed the layout problem in IE8 by forcing Compatibility View. It is only a temporary fix but it will have to do until I can work out why IE8 is so stupid. None of the other browsers that I have tested this site in have any problems with the layout except for IE 8. There was a problem in one of the earlier versions of IE like 5.5 or 6 but I fixed that issue a while ago.
